Keep the important threads visible
Tutor chats build up quickly once you use them for syllabus checks, mind maps, and follow-up drills. Pinning lifts a conversation into a Pinned section at the top of the sidebar so you do not dig through date buckets every time you return.
- Open the ··· menu on any chat → Pin
- Pinned threads show a small pin icon and stay above Today / Yesterday
- Unpin from the same menu when the thread is done
- Up to ten pins per account — enough for active subjects without clutter
Synced with your account
Pins live on the server with the rest of your Tutor history. Sign in on another device and the same threads stay pinned — the same pattern as starring a library page, not a browser-only bookmark.
Works with rename and search
Rename a pinned chat anytime; the pin stays. Search still finds pinned and unpinned threads by title. Reader Ask AI chats that appear in Tutor can be pinned too once they show up in the list.
Pinned vs starred pages
Starring a library page marks material you want to reopen from lists and Tutor tools. Pinning a chat marks a conversation — the tutor thread where you already worked through a topic — so the dialogue stays at the top of /study-ai.
Use both together: star the PDF, pin the chat that explained it. Opening the chat does not change the star; starring does not auto-pin the thread.
How many pins to keep
Shelf caps pins at ten so the sidebar stays scannable. If you hit the limit, unpin an older subject thread before pinning a new one — the API returns a clear error instead of silently dropping pins.
Treat pins as the active semester stack: current papers, a live mock debrief, and one long syllabus map. Archive the rest by unpinning when the exam unit is done.
Search and date buckets
Pinned chats leave the Today / Yesterday / Older buckets until you unpin them. Search still matches titles across pinned and unpinned threads, so a pin is for visibility, not a separate catalog.
Updating a pinned chat (new messages, rename) keeps the pin. Delete removes the thread entirely, pin included.
Mobile chat drawer
On compact portrait layouts, open Chats from the Tutor header to reach the same list, pin menu, and Pinned section. Pins sync the same way as on desktop.
