How it works

From your first page to your next session

Each step stays attached to your material, so you can continue instead of starting over in another app.

Bring your material in

Put PDFs, notes, Docs, and lectures into a library you can organize by collection and topic.

Read with context

Highlight and take notes as you read. Ask Tutor about a passage, a file, or your library, with links back to your sources.

Explore reading and Tutor →

Check what stuck

Make a quiz from your own material, answer it, and revisit the results before your next session.

See how practice works →

Pick up tomorrow

Resume the page you were reading and open tasks linked to your material. Use AI Planner when you want a draft schedule from a goal.

What is Shelf?

Shelf is a personal workspace for people who read, study, teach, or research from their own material. Keep PDFs, notes, Docs, and lectures together with reading, source-grounded questions, quizzes, and planning.

Can I ask questions about more than one document?

Yes. Tutor can work with a page, a topic, a collection, or your wider indexed library, and link answers back to source pages.

Can Shelf make quizzes from my PDFs and notes?

Yes. You can create practice from your library or an upload, choose question types and a timer, and review the results afterward.

Why come back instead of starting another AI chat?

Shelf saves your reading position, highlights, document chats, and past quizzes. Planner items can take you back to the page you scheduled, so the next session starts with context.

How is Shelf different from ChatGPT or Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM)?

ChatGPT is useful for general-purpose conversation. Gemini Notebook explores sources and offers quizzes and flashcards. Shelf focuses on a personal PDF reader and library with saved reading state, annotations, questions, quizzes, and page-linked plans. Choose the workflow that fits you.

Can I try Shelf for free?

Yes. The free plan includes a personal library, reading tools, Tutor, quizzes, and a planner, with usage limits. Check the pricing page for current limits and paid options.
