Book Mentoring Sessions with Your Assigned Coach on Shelf

When coaching assigns you a mentor, Shelf adds a compact Mentoring card on the dashboard plus My Mentor booking, calendar ICS, and mentor prep overviews.

One compact entry on the dashboard you already use

Signed-in students keep the same dashboard cards for Planner, Library, Practice, and Attention. Mentoring adds one more compact card: Book a session, View session, or Read shared note — based on your real bookings. If coaching has not assigned a mentor yet, the card explains that assignment is pending.

Open My Mentor for the mentor introduction, guidance areas, preparation tip, upcoming or book CTA, and previous completed sessions. Nothing else on the dashboard changes.

Book, attend, reschedule — with clear IST policies

Booking shows open slots from your mentor’s published weekly windows (Asia/Kolkata). Pick a date and time, one concern (Preparation planning, Revision planning, Prelims performance, Mains answer writing, or Other), and optional context. Other requires context. Confirm revalidates the slot and your assignment; you keep one confirmed upcoming appointment.

Policy examples: 14-day booking horizon, two-hour lead time before a slot, and a two-hour student cancel/reschedule cutoff. Upcoming sessions show joining details or location plus Add to calendar (ICS with a 30-minute reminder you import into your calendar). Reschedule keeps the original booking until the new slot succeeds; cancel frees the slot.

Mentor caseload and preparation overview

Mentors with mentor.guide open Mentor in the header or /admin/mentor. The caseload shows assigned students, unique students needing attention, and sessions this calendar week. Preparation concerns group the next upcoming session per student; each group opens a filtered student list.

Preparation overview is honest about completion, not mastery: library pages marked complete, planner tasks due in the displayed week, and Practice attempts from the last 60 days. Mentors publish weekly availability and blocked dates without disturbing confirmed sessions, and can share an optional session note the student reads from the dashboard or My Mentor.

What students see after the session

When a mentor shares a note and marks the session complete, the dashboard Mentoring card switches to Read shared note and deep-links that session. My Mentor keeps previous sessions in a list so you can revisit concern, timing, and the shared note later.

Joining details stay on the upcoming session only. Cancelled bookings free the old slot; blocked dates stop new bookings on that day without erasing confirmed ones.

How mentors set weekly windows

Under Availability, mentors choose session length, online or in-person mode, meeting details or a join link, weekday windows (for example Monday–Friday 16:00–18:00 IST), and blocked calendar dates. Publishing makes those windows bookable for assigned students only.

Edits never cancel existing confirmed sessions. Students still see the same joining details until the mentor updates meeting details for future bookings.

Who this is for

Mentoring is for coaching programmes that assign a mentor to a student. Personal Shelf accounts without an assignment see a quiet pending state — Library, Planner, Practice, and Tutor keep working exactly as before.

Demo accounts: mentor@shelf.local manages caseload; student@shelf.local is assigned for local booking drills. Faculty review and content admin workspaces stay separate capabilities.
